Malvern Exhibition of Contemporary Art

Charlie Hurcombe
Sculptor

Capel CelynMy work explores and promotes the tensions which exist between visual and tactile experience. With particular emphasis placed on the coexistence of disrupted form and reflective shiny surface my work makes reference to both sculpture and painting.

The combined utilisation of steel - often stainless - and household gloss paint (plus assorted fixtures and fittings) has been a significant characteristic of my 3D work. The application of gloss paint makes reference to both a protected and decorated surface whilst the geometric design suggests concerns associated with attraction and caution and conveys a heightened sense of physical disruption.

The use of manufactured items such as wooden handles is significant in promoting issues of interaction, function and scale. The temptation and desire to touch is negated by the objects status whilst being simultaneously encouraged through the presence of functional attributes.

The seemingly autonomous object is presented in an implied state of change - an isolated disrutive moment somehow made tangible.

Sculptures from the Haptic Amorphous Allure series.
(Stainless steel, gloss paint and hardware).

Currently on show at 3 Worcester Road, Malvern.

These sculptures explore and promote the tensions which exist between visual and tactile experience.

With particular emphasis placed on the coexistence of disrupted forms and reflective lustrous surfaces this work makes reference to both sculpture and painting.

The combined use of ferrous and non ferrous metals together with gloss paint has been a significant characteristic of recent 3D work.

The utilisation of gloss paint makes reference to both protected and decorated surfaces whilst the use of discordant colours and geometric design suggests dual concerns associated with attraction and caution. The disrupted forms and structures suggest both uncertainty and movement.

Within the work the temptation and desire to touch is negated by the objects status whilst being simultaneously encouraged by the presence of functional attributes and fixtures.

The use of manufactured items such as wooden handles is significant in promoting issues concerning functionality and scale.
